Medical Records:

All of the patients’ medical records are protected by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) of 1996.

This law ensures continuity of healthcare coverage for individuals changing jobs; includes a provision that impacts on the management of health information; seeks to simplify the administration of health insurance; and aims to combat waste, fraud, and abuse in health insurance and healthcare.

If a patient is transferring from or into the care of a Boydton Medical Center physician they must sign a records transfer request to either let their former physician send the records to the Medical Center or vice versa.
