Opening in July 1985, Boydton Health Care on the Square is dedicated to providing community-oriented primary care to the citizens of Mecklenburg County.
Health Care on the Square consists of: Boydton Medical Center; Boydton Dental Center; Boydton Family Counseling; Boydton Community Pharmacy and Boydton Fitness Center.
Health Care on the Square is located in the town of Boydton, Virginia, near the geographic center of Mecklenburg County, Virginia and only 8 miles from North Carolina. The facility stands prepared to treat the range of area health needs.
The medical facility began as a group of concerned Mecklenburg County citizens perceiving a need for additional healthcare services in the area. A non-profit corporation, the Boydton Community Health Center Inc. was formed and a grant was obtained for the United States Public Health Service in October 1984.
Mecklenburg County is characterized by small, rural farming communities. Boydton is the county seat. Significant health resources in the vicinity are Halifax Regional Hospital (South Boston) to the west and Community Memorial Healthcenter (South Hill) to the east. The Mecklenburg County Health Department is located one block from the Center. Mecklenburg County's total population is approximately 30,000. A majority of the center's users come from the Chase City, Clarksville, Skipwith, and Boydton districts. In August 1992 the center began a physician dispensing service.
In September 2004, Boydton Medical Center moved into a newly renovated facility and became Boydton Community Health Facility Inc. dba as Health Care on the Square (HCS). HCS offers a full range of family medical services including pediatrics, adolescents, adult, and geriatric medicine. Some of the routine services offered are routine gynecology, dermatology, minor surgical procedure, emergency care, EKGs, routine lab work, and x-rays. Also available is pharmaceutical, fitness, and dental services.

Boydton Community Health Facility Inc. is a non-profit organization. Its purpose is to benefit the community and society as a whole. Enumerated purposes of a 501(c) 3 facility include religious, charitable, scientific, testing for public safety, literary, or education functions. Our organization's assets upon dissolution are distributed for exempt purposes to another 501(c) 3 facility or to the federal, state, or local government for public purpose.
