History

Opened July 1985, Boydton Medical Center is dedicated to providing community-oriented primary care to the citizens of Mecklenburg County.

Boydton Medical Center is located in the town of Boydton, Virginia, near the geographic center of Mecklenburg County, Virginia and only 8 miles from North Carolina. The facility stands prepared to treat the range of area health needs.

The medical facility began as a group of concerned Mecklenburg County citizens perceiving a need for additional healthcare services in the area. A non-profit corporation, the Boydton Community Health Center Inc. was formed and a grant was obtained for the United States Public Health Service in October 1984.

Mecklenburg County is characterized by small, rural farming communities. Boydton is the county seat. Significant health resources in the vicinity are Halifax/South Boston Hospital to the west and Community Memorial Hospital to the east. The Mecklenburg County Health Department is located next door to the CHC. Mecklenburg County’s total population is approximately 30,000. A majority of the center’s users come from the Chase City, Clarksville, Skipwith, and Boydton districts. In August 1992 the center began a physician dispensing service.

In September 2004, Boydton Medical Center moved into a newly renovated facility and became Boydton Community Health Facility Inc. Boydton Community Health Facility Inc. offers a full range of family medical services including pediatrics, adolescents, adult, and geriatric medicine. Some of the routine services offered are routine gynecology, dermatology, minor surgical procedure, emergency care, EKGs, routine lab work, and x-rays.
